Hazardous Materials

Brighton Fire Rescue District is fully trained and equipped to respond to hazardous materials (HazMat) incidents, including chemical spills, industrial accidents, transportation crashes, and more. All firefighters are trained to the operations level, enabling them to conduct scene assessments, initiate containment, establish exclusion zones, and begin decontamination procedures.

In addition, the District has a specialized HazMat Team with advanced technician-level training. These members are skilled in detecting hazardous materials, performing reconnaissance, and executing complex mitigation operations.

Our firefighters regularly train with the members of the Adams and Jefferson County Hazardous Response Team and are familiar with their roles and responsibilities in the event a mutual aid response is warranted. Adams County provides its Bomb Squad services to the district for the examination and security of suspicious devices and packages. Further collaboration with the North Area Hazardous Materials Response Authority (NAHMRA) enhances response capabilities by combining resources and expertise with regional partners.
