Swiftwater Rescue Team
Brighton Fire Rescue District’s Swiftwater Team is a surface water rescue program based on Dive Rescue International principles, specializing in both flowing water and still-water rescues. Led by Lieutenant Devin Mellars, the team responds locally and throughout the North Area when resources are needed. The District’s Heavy Rescue can house all of the water rescue equipment as well as additional technical rescue gear that may be required. Team members train the line staff in swiftwater shore support techniques, such as proficiency in using throw bags and assisting with the setup of a high line.
